Church of San Paolo Apostolo – Divina Foligno Skip to main content
The Church of San Paolo Apostolo is a parish church built in 2009 by Massimiliano Fuksas and Doriana Mandrelli Fuksas. It is also known by many as the “Fuksas Cube”. The structure was commissioned by the Italian Episcopal Conference after the earthquake that struck Foligno and the Umbria-Marche territory in 1997. The area used as a camp for displaced people was chosen as place for its construction, being a significant place and testifying the symbolic function of the church as a sign of rebirth. From an architectural point of view, the building is made almost entirely of reinforced concrete and looks like a real cube, which contains within it a second parallelepiped framing the altar and presbytery. A rich system of light points, windows and chandeliers contributes to making the structure very suggestive, even if there have been some critics regarding the "futuristic" and unusual style for a building of worship.
