Along the Menotre, immersed in the valley by the same name, one reaches the Aedicule of the Madonna del Piano. The small structure, now bare, belongs to Belfiore and delimits the border with nearby Pale. Located along one of the ancient roads leading to Colfiorito, later renamed "Lauretana", it only has few traces of the original frescoes. As we approach Pale and the Menotre waterfalls, we cross into an area historically known for the many production plants built here for the vicinity with water, a natural source of energy. Under the influence of the Benedictines of the Sassovivo Abbey who once dominated this area, many production plants were established here very early on, such as fulling mills, works, mills and, especially, paper mills. According to tradition, the paper used for the first edition of the Divine Comedy, printed in 1472 in Foligno, came from a paper mill in the Pale area.
