Villa of the Mosaics of Spello – Divina Foligno Skip to main content
Found by chance in 2005, the so-called “Villa of the Mosaics” undoubtedly represents one of the most important archaeological sites in the region. The structure testifies the glorious Roman past of Spello and is located at the gates of the city; it is an avant-garde structure both from an architectural and a museum point of view. Archaeological investigations, carried out over several years, have brought to the light the central body of a villa consisting of 20 different rooms: half of these retain mosaics of the highest level with both figurative and geometric decorations. The stratigraphic study of the building allowed the identification of two distinct construction phases: one datable between 27 BC. and 14 AD, the other between the second and the beginning of the third century AD.
