The Tower of Montefalco is located near the medieval bridge over the Teverone known as "del Rossitolo". The area, located close to the Clitunno and on the border between Foligno and Montefalco, has been subjected over the centuries to massive reclamation works, as part of the territory once occupied by the lacus Clitorius. The tower is dated to 1000-1100 or, on the basis of recent studies, to the 13th century. Its birth was due to the need to control the bridge, which was a strategic point of the area's viability. The imposing walls are wide 3.60 meters and characterize this structure about 11 meters high, with a stone base belonging to the first phase and the rest raised in brick. It was equipped with a drawbridge, which spanned the moat on the west side. Today there is the Church of San Francesco over there, consecrated in 1958 after apparitions and miraculous healings traditionally occurred in the place. After the bridge there is a small sixteenth-century settlement with a mill.
