Uphill from the path you are following, immersed in the woods, there is an irregularly shaped sinkhole more than 15 meters deep. Though not accessible, the karst structure testifies to the calcareous origin of the substrate: over time the waters have dug deeply, leading to the formation of corridors and tunnels where the water infiltrates and then re-emerges further downstream, in the springs that feed the Menotre River. The route now develops inside an impluvium, the Fosso Terminara, a tributary of the Menotre river and former border between the dioceses of Spoleto and Foligno, which gave it the name “Terminara”, deriving from the word “ending”.
