Gherardi Palace is a valuable example of a sixteenth-century building. It is the result of an adaptation of previous structures, a clear evidence of which remains on the back façade. On the portal, which appears slightly off-centre with respect to the symmetry of the façade, the name of its first owner is still present: Pier Luigi Gherardi from Cannara, known as Francioso, who was the stable master for Pope Paul III. The auspicious phrase "Pax huic domui et omnibus in ea 1423" is engraved on the lintel of the back entrance. The palace was the residence of important Foligno families as well as of the Gherardi family.
