The Church of the Madonna del Piano, more properly a "sanctuary", is an ancient pilgrimage site, now used as a chapel in the Annifo cemetery. It is a fifteenth-century building, frescoed only in the apse area, positioned between the basins of two plateaus: the Plain of Annifo to the south, located within the Natura 2000 network of the region, and the Plain of the Cross to the north. The plateaus are partially covered with water in the wettest periods, especially in the winter and always for limited periods (maximum 20/30 days) as they are drained by a sinkhole, which leads to their emptying.
