The modern metal fountain dating back to 1886 evokes an older brick fountain, from which the toponym of the crossroads is also derived. The wall structure was built in 1805 to allow the owners of the building to have a terrace. The authorization was issued by the Municipality, which affixed the coat of arms still visible today on the occasion, with the favourable opinion of architect Giuseppe Piermarini, who was the general superintendent of public works. An inscription affixed in the seventeenth century prohibits the use of water to wash clothes.
