The Island Bridge derives its name from the orographic characteristics of the area: in ancient times the nearby hill of the Annunziata Convent was one of the few reliefs sheltered from the frequent flooding of the Timia River and its minor streams. The historic bridge, recently recovered, marks the point where the old road between Bevagna and the Perugia valley crossed the Timia. Today the Assisi-Spoleto Cycle Route passes over the bridge: it is a cycle route of almost 52 km almost exclusively flat that crosses the entire Umbrian Valley. To the left, following the cycle path heading north for about 20 km, you reach Assisi by crossing Cannara and Rivotorto. Between Bevagna and Cannara the itinerary runs along the banks of the Timia, offering sweeping views across the plain and Mount Subasio. The Assisi-Spoleto Cycle Route is one of the most important cycle routes in the region. In 2016, in Spoleto, a link was inaugurated connecting the cycle path to the route of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway, thus making possible an evocative itinerary that from Assisi reaches the Valnerina up to the city of San Benedetto.
