Located in the municipality of Trevi at an altitude of 880 meters above sea level, the mountainous village of Ponze revolves around the ancient parish church of San Lorenzo, today in need of restoration and formerly under the control of the church of the church of San Pietro di Bovara near Trevi. In Ponze, starting from 1820, a Monte Frumentario is documented, which was a pious institution loaning wheat and other grains to the farmers. It was administered by the Confraternity of the Rosary, founded in the Church of San Lorenzo. In 1870 the institution was transferred to the Congregation of Charity of Trevi. Ten years later it was replaced by the Monte Pecuniario dei Prestiti, which loaned money and was shortly after extinguished. The church, which is difficult to date, has a small cemetery on the back, a simple facade and it has no belltower. However, there is a belltower in the village as part of the parish home, allowing the priest to call the faithful from there on cold snowy days.
