The Clitunno in Bevagna – Divina Foligno Skip to main content
Bevagna is a city surrounded by rivers: the Clitunno, on which the itinerary now passes, flows into the Teverone immediately west of the city, originating the Timia River. Various archaeological elements have confirmed the presence, in Roman times, of a river port that exploited the Clitunno-Topino system. It was a system which, in its southern portion, had its main sources at the current “Sources of Clitunno”, north of Spoleto. Today from Bevagna to Cannara, the Timia River is within the Special Conservation Area of the Natura 2000 network, having the same name. Here the watercourse has an almost straight course and crosses a valley without forest surfaces, with mainly agricultural lands. In the watercourse, among other fish species, the presence of the Etruscan chub was detected: it is a species, now in sharp decline, distributed only in Central Italy, whose range includes part of Tuscany, the upper Lazio and Umbria.
