If you want to deepen your scientific and environmental knowledge of the area, the Naturalistic Museum offers this possibility. It is located adjacent to the Park's Tourist Infopoint and is housed in a structure that also evokes a part of our country's recent history, "le ex Casermette", sheds built in 1882 for military provision, which in the interlude from 1939 until September 1943 became an internment camp for Albanian internees, Italian politicians and Montenegrin civilians. The didactic and documentation material of the Naturalistic Museum is collected and organised in panels that narrate the geomorphologic evolution of the Umbrian-Marches Apennines, the fossil findings, and the botanical, vegetational and faunal characteristics of the Plestine plateaus. The natural history collections In addition to scientific information, the museum preserves and exhibits a collection of insects, a herbarium and a collection of stuffed birds and mammals representative of the Park area (Piscini Collection). Photographic exhibitions and temporary displays are set up every year to explore the various scientific, naturalistic, historical and cultural aspects of the area. The museum is also an important scientific, cultural and exhibition centre for the area's many naturalistic and historical riches. In addition to preserving and exhibiting important ornithological, botanical and entomological collections, it keeps the contact with the territory alive and up-to-date through the collection and dissemination of environmental and landscape data of the Colfiorito Park area and the Plestine plateaus, which result from continuous monitoring and scientific research. These include the ringing of migratory passerines carried out by the Umbria Region in collaboration with LIPU (Italian League for the Protection of Birds).
