This village, formerly known as “San Lorenzo Tower”, was a fiefdom of the counts of Antignano, a family of Germanic origin who dominated these areas between the 10th and 12th centuries. In the Middle Ages the castle entered the orbit of Bevagna; it was a phase that culminated in 1500 with the granting of the definitive citizenship to the inhabitants. The town is surrounded by mighty walls and has a single tower, now used as a bell tower. The ancient pointed arch gives access to the castle, which still retains two splendid examples of 15th century homes. Outside the village, under the bell tower, there is a 1924 Majesty by Pierino Stortini. It is an aedicule having inside a painting of the Madonna and Child, with St. Francis of Assisi and St. Michael the Archangel on the sides. It celebrates the Madonna della Valle, which is particularly venerated in the area: the shrine is one of the many built by Stortini along the road to the sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna, located about 5 km to the west.
