Verchiano – Divina Foligno Skip to main content
Verchiano is located at an altitude of 784 meters above sea level, in the upper Menotre Valley. Its strategic position has made it one of the most important settlements in the Foligno mountains: it is located along the ancient route of the Via della Spina, an important pre-Roman road that connected Spoleto to the Marches through the Colfiorito pass. Overlooked by its powerful medieval fortress controlled by the Trinci lords of Foligno between 1305 and 1439, the current town gravitates around the parish church of Saint Mary of the Assumption. It is an ancient parish church with an early medieval foundation and a single nave, home to important frescoes and precious artifacts such as the holy water stoup and the baptismal font, dated 1604. Other buildings of considerable importance are the Palazzo Barnocchi-Moscati and the Palazzo Corradi, heavily restored in the 17th century, and the monumental font erroneously called “dei Trinci”, dating back to the 16th century.
